In 2013, the SocialHeart co-founders were wondering why Kansas City didn’t have a large Mardi Gras celebration like our fellow Missourian city, St. Louis. After some cocktails they decided that St. Louis shouldn’t get to have all the fun and the Mardi Gras Masquerade Party was born.
After the event in 2013 raised $7,000 for Cultivate KC, they decided to grow it in 2014 to a whole weekend by adding the Mardi Gras 5k. In 2014, the weekend raised another $7,000 for BoysGrow. 2015’s Mardi Gras KC raised $5,000 for the Quixotic School of Performing Arts. In 2016, $5,000 was raised for the Alta Vista Charter School, and last year, 2017, $1,000 was raised for the Quixotic Foundation and $7,000 for Youth R.I.S.E.
Now in the sixth year, SocialHeart is excited to continue to take Mardi Gras KC to the masses and have fun events for everyone all while raising money for charity.
